How to Make a Dried Flower Arrangement That Lasts for Years

Fresh flowers are lovely for a week. A dried arrangement brings that same softness for years, with no water to change.

Pick your vase first

A textured, matte ceramic vase with a narrow neck holds stems in place and makes the arrangement look sculptural.

Build in three layers

1. Structure: tall, airy stems like pampas or palm spears. Place 3 at varied heights.
2. Filler: bunny tails, wheat or dried eucalyptus to fill the middle.
3. Accent: a few colored stems (dyed ruscus, strawflowers) for interest.

Keep it looking fresh

• A light mist of unscented hairspray keeps pampas from shedding.
• Keep arrangements out of direct sun to prevent fading.
• Dust with a hairdryer on the cool setting.
